Fractured Fairytale
Within this lesson plan I created, students are using prior/background knowledge, they are holding discussions among peers, making connections and identifying the problem and solution within a literary selection. Students are also using critical thinking techniques to compare and contrast original and fractured fairy tales and finding creative ways in which to fracture a fairy tale of their very own. Students also used their artistic skills to illustrate a picture to go along with their fractured fairy tale, my kinesthetic learners, who love to do hand-on work, really enjoyed this part. I made it clear they were not being graded on their artistic abilities though (to relieve the worries of my students who are not so artistic.) Critical thinking, cognitive and social cognitive and highlighting relationships between concepts, are all important when it comes to teaching. As teachers we need to make lessons that not only engage students but also, allow the stduents to develop and learn. A child's development of personality and self-esteem is important, not only in school but also in life. With this being said, I make sure to constantly praise my students and encourage them. We all clapped and I told the students what a great job they did with creating their own fractured fairytales.
